The Vine Mealybug Workgroup was formed in 2003 by a casual coalition of concerned growers in Napa and Sonoma counties (before any Vine Mealybug was actually found in producing vineyards). We currently have approximately 90 growers participating in the trapping program, representing about 2600 acres in Napa County and 2300 acres in Sonoma County.
We hold monthly meetings to provide the latest research information, share effective methods and other stragegies for controlling this devastating vineyard pest.
Collaborating agencies include:
- County Agricultural Commissioners offices
- Kent Daane Lab, UC Berkeley and Kearney Ag Center
- Assistance Dog Institute, Santa Rosa, CA
We meet the third Wednesday of the month, from 9am-10am, beginning in March and ending in November. All are welcome to attend, there is no fee for attending the monthly meetings. Continuing Education Hours for PCAs, QALs, QACs and Private Applicators are being requested for each meeting. Meetings are held at Walsh Vineyard Management's training room at 1125 Golden Gate Dr. Napa, CA.
